Why is the ASME Stamp so Important?

ASME Pressure Vessel - ASME Stamped - 2ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code

ASME pressure vessels and pressure vessel accessories are certified with the ASME stamp.  The ASME stamp standardizes the level of quality that is required in these types of vessels and it's considered an industry best practice to use ASME certified vessels. In fact, some states have passed legislation that requires pressure vessels operating at 15 psi or higher to be built in accordance with ASME boiler and pressure vessel code. Why is so much emphasis placed on the ASME stamp?

Why it's so important:

1) Safety: Many pressure vessels house contents that are potentially hazardous materials at high pressures. Keeping those contents secure should be a top priority for the safety of everyone near these vessels. An ASME stamp ensures that the tank holding these contents was built properly.

2) Risk Mitigation: Insurance companies place great value an ASME stamp. In most cases, insurance companies will deny a claim for the failure of any vessel that is not code-stamped.

3) Quality:  Fabricators of ASME vessels are subject to inspections performed by a third party. Those who create non-stamped vessels are only held to their own quality control standards.
